Description
Summary:Vol.1 : The late C.C. Brown's translation of Raffles MS18 Sejarah Melayu was first published in the Journal of the Malaysian Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society, vol, 25, part 2 and 3 in 1952. Up to now, it has never been published, and is now extremely difficult to obtain. Although scholarly criticism has been levelled at certain aspects of the translation, the view remains that on balance this is still the best translation available in English.
Vol.2 : John Leyden, who died in 1810, was an extremely able Scotsman, who, after serving in India, moved to the Straits Settlements in the first decade of the nineteenth century. He was responsible for the first translation into English of 'The Malay Annals'. Unfortunately he died before this was published and it fell to his friend, Stamford Raffles to arrange for publication in 1821.
Vol.3 : This is a New Rumi Edition of the 'Sejarah Melayu' which has been transliterated from the original Jawi manuscripts known as MS Raffles No. 18 entitled Sulalat us-Salatin (Genealogy of Sultans).
