| Summary: | This introduction to the basic theory of structural analysis and its application to various types of structures presents the theory and techniques for performing the analysis both manually and by computer. As students gain a solid foundation in the manual methods, they are not only able to check their manual solutions using the computer programs, but are also able to perform analyses of structures under various conditions to obtain a better understanding of structural behaviour. A set of computer programs (on CD-ROM), which can be used for various types of structural analysis is included. These programs allow students to analyze a structure for a variety of conditions in order to determine how changes in the properties of the structure or of the applied loads affect the response of the structure. Example problems first demonstrate the procedure for solving the problem manually, and then solve the same problem using the computer program, while numerous chapter-end problems require students to first solve the problem manually and then to check their solutions using an appropriate computer program. |
