Clouds over Tianshan essays on social disturbance in Xinjiang in the 1940s
This text demonstrates that the 1940s Yili rebellion in Xinjiang was not an internal Chinese matter, but very much an international affair involving the KMT government, Chinese communists and Soviets. The dynamics behind the events of the 1940s are similar to those behind today's Uighur unrest.
